April has been another whirlwind of a month, trying to keep up with work, the kids, new Church responsibilities and of course the flip-flopping Denver weather. This past weekend was a good one with warm temperatures so we took a mini-break complete with a Rockies game and hotel. William got a baseball mitt for an early birthday gift, and it didn’t take him long to figure it out. We arrived early for batting practice and found a spot out in left field. Linnea is good at getting the outfielder’s attention and got one of them threw William a ball. He was pretty excited, but really just wanted to go down on the field. I found a nice spot I’ve been scouting out to catch home-run balls. Well believe it or not, one of the Dodgers hit one right too me and I reached over the tunnel wall and caught it! William was right there and afterwards decided he wanted to catch baseballs too. After finding some hot-dogs we made way to our seats and got ready for the game. It was a little daunting to keep a hand on William since we were near big overhang, but after countless candy, pop, and other treats he settled in and watched the game. Joshua did great too and was a trooper. We made it to the 7th inning and then departed for the light-rail. It was a crazy busy train with a long delay and somehow we managed to make it to the hotel in one piece. By that time William found his second wind and turned the running and jumping into high gear. At about 11:30 p, I think we all fell asleep together on the king bed. The next morning we hit up the hotel breakfast skillet, doughnuts for William, and then the pool. What a weekend. Back home, William went to bed with his baseball mitt and woke up the next morning with it on his hand ready to go!
The other extreme of April has been the snow storms and great skiing conditions. We managed a kid free day at Loveland thanks to our friend Melanie. It was not quite the warm day we expected but the snow was good and we hit the slopes hard. Dave talked me into a couple of more intense runs from the Ridgecat. I managed to only wipe out once (yes it was a yardsale complete with a face full of snow) and by pacing myself we managed a pretty full day. We treated ourselves to burgers and beer at Tommy Knockers in Idaho Springs on the way home to make it a full date!
We’ve also all been enjoying the warmer days of spring at the local reservoir and soccer field. William has so much energy and loves running whether its chasing geese or a soccer ball or just running and yelling for the fun of it.
