Memorial Day at Turquoise

We wrapped up the school year and celebrated by heading out of town for another wonderful Memorial Day weekend. As usual we were dreading possible bad weather and horrible traffic but it all worked out and was a wonderful time with friends!

We camped at Molly Brown Campground on Turquoise Lake near Leadville, CO and as you can see we brought every toy but the kitchen sink. Dave worked hard to make a mount on the canoe for his Grandpa VA’s Evinrude motor and we took it and a kayak and the boys bikes. By Friday afternoon we were set up and hit the lake for some afternoon boating which quickly turned into some very successful fishing. Everyone caught rainbow trout a plenty! Smiles all around since we even kept one for me to fry up for dinner. Saturday was filled with more lake time and our friends joined us in the adventures. I was in my happy place as I got to paddle the lake in quietness.

The rest of the weekend was filled with much of the same plus some hiking and mountain biking. There is a new set of trails that have just been put in that proved to be just the right mix of challenge and success for the boys. Dave and I wished we had brought our bikes! General camping fun including campfires and smores added to the fun. And, the fish fry over the fire was such a hit that we had to repeat it a second night. Luckily the fishermen were successful. There were afternoon storms including some Thundersnow/grapple but they passed and only added to the adventure. Overall the weather was much better than expected.

So we have kicked off our summer with a refreshing get away that we hope to repeat soon.

Loved the pics, especially the fish!!! The one with a single fish and mountains in the background is a winner! Boys looked like they were having fun mountain biking, but a little “dicey.” Nathanael chopping wood? Thanks for fun report. So neat seeing the motor on the canoe!!! Much Love, Mom
