Moab Quick Getaway

After a winter full of skiing we decided to switch things up and head towards Moab for a long weekend. With Aunt Rima in tow we headed out of town on Thursday. After an uneventful drive we rolled into a dispersed camping site recommended to us by a friend, with just enough daylight to set up camp with a great view. It felt wonderful to be out camping again.

On Friday we headed into Arches NP and had a full day of exploring. We did several of the short hikes to the big arches but also just scrambled around checking out less well known locations. It made for a nice mix of activity. It felt like a giant playground with the best sand and rock boxes. Nathanael had a blast digging the couple of times he and I hung out while the big boys pressed ahead.

Saturday was very cold but we persevered and headed to Deadhorse SP. This time the boys road their bikes while we hiked. The views were so impressive and the rock scrambling made for good entertainment. Nathanael was not impressed with having to be carried but Aunt Rima did the hard work so we could all make the same loop. We decided to pack it all in and made it to the pump track at the Bar M Trailhead and the sand dune near Arches entrance. Non-stop smiles from the whole crew especially when we wrapped things up with delicious pizza in Moab. After a little driving around we enjoyed the heat of a great fire and the light of the full moon.

Time flew by too quickly and Sunday after packing up we made time to hike at Navajo Rocks main trailhead. The cliffs are impressive, a slot canyon and holes in the rocks kept us moving and more sand to play in. Practically paradise, just required a warm hat the whole time. 😉 No rush to drive back since we wanted to avoid the ski traffic over the passes. Even with a later drive and dinner in Rifle we still had brake lights pack into Denver. Can’t wait to go back with mountain bikes and friends!!! What a beautiful area of the country that we have just begun to explore.
